@Valo Palomares - Really, do tell. I would love to hear what film school you're attending, and why I have "never been more wrong" in my life. Since you just got through the lecture you should be able to school us all on what deconstruction really is.

Maybe Cabin in the Woods is a parody and Tucker and Dale is a decontstruction but I don't see why that automatically makes it a lesser film. You're complaining about having a gas that makes someone want to split up, well how come Iron Man can make a 3 inch circle that generates the power of 5 nuclear reactors from nowhere. Just move past it and have fun

Drew Goddard is doing a Q&A right now on io9 he kind of answered the debate.

Leon did the smartest thing in his life to stay out of the Cabin in the Woods discussion lol. Seriously was freaking frustrating listening to. OF COURSE CABIN IS DECONSTRUCTION! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!

As someone who is going to filmschool and literally just got through a lecture on deconstruction. I can tell you Peter has never been more wrong in his life.

But they also showed people druging the people in cabin in the woods, and talked about the plan, way before they even came to the Cabin

Where did you guys go where it said Man with the Iron Fists is 4 hours? Because all my other sources says it's around 90 minutes...

Haven't seen Cabin in the Woods yet. But I read the movie novelization and thought it was so-so.

Sorry Peter. I completely disagree with your "deconstruction" of The Cabin In The Woods, but I respect your opinion. I thought it was easily one of the best horror/comedies I've ever seen. I loved Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, too, but The Cabin In The Woods was so much more fun and intelligent.

@Harris - I disagree, the squid kind of came out of nowhere and didn't fit the tone of the narrative.  It seemed to be crammed into the later part of the story like Moore just started figuring out "oh yeah, I need a way to end the story at some point."  That was a big part of the story I hated in the comics.

That debate about Cabin in the Woods had me screaming at Peter, it's ridiculous. But that's why I love you guys. I can enjoy you guys debate about my favorite movies. You're still the man Peter (but you are completely wrong about Cabin :P)

***spoilers*** Peter he is right about the definitions of deus ex machina and deconstruction, wrong about the interpretations, the scientist controlling the characters is something per-established in the movie, not an ABRUPT change that comes in and changes everything. Yes the characters suffer abrupt change in response to the manipulation but the tools are an integral part of the story through out. Also, although I enjoy Tucker and Dale VS Evil, it is more far fetch (teens throwing themselves into wood chippers), slapstick (the bees), thus bringing more into parody territory.

While he was explaining the movie he said was better than cabin in the woods I thought he was explaining cabin in the woods. It sounds like they are doing very similarly things. I think that guy just loved the other movie so much anything similar is worthless compared to it.

Around 59:00 this podcast just turns into nerds arguing about vocabulary words. I can dig that.

Awesome podcast! How often do you get to use the word 'penultimate' in a conversation, anyway?
