Macigal Mystery Tour is on of those movies that I saw when I was about 7 years old and really dug. However I haven't watched it since then. I'm honestly not surprised to hear that it's terrible.

so I guess they chose to make the cover a spoiler for the Prometheus Blu-Ray? the studio probably figured that by now everyone has either seen the movie or gone online to look at the images the critics didn't want to spoil in their reviews. I think they should have chose the original poster art with the colossal humanoid head, that I thought was both clever and foreshadowing, this is just blatant.

Strangers on a Train and Dial M For Murder aren't on the Hitchcock giant blu-ray thing.  The box set is from Universal, but those two movies aren't Universal films.

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray (out on October 30th) will include:

Saboteur / Shadow of a Doubt / Rope / Rear Window / The Trouble with Harry / The Man Who Knew Too Much / Vertigo / North by Northwest / Psycho / The Birds / Marnie / Torn Curtain / Topaz / Frenzy / Family Plot

Livin in the UK u can't say Magic Mystery Tour is a bad movie without pretty much being accused of heracy, saw a documentary on the bbc the other week that basically proclaimed it as a work of genius and the defining cultural moment of the 60s.

Soo glad to hear somebody call it like it is for once - that movie is pointless, selff-indulgant crap..... sorry Beatles.

Yeah, the issue with the Dial M For Murder blu ray (and BR-3D), for those who don't know, High Def Digest got to it:

"Well, before I publicly lambasted Warner, a studio that prides itself on its accurate reproductions of classic films, I decided to look into the situation further, and soon discovered the real culprit of this visual calamity to be the 3D process itself and the way it forces images to overlap to create a dimensional whole. Such layering produces a slightly soft, highly processed picture that confines true clarity to a very small area of the frame. Modern 3D technology eliminates these imperfections, but back in the 1950s, when the form was in its infancy and Hitchcock, following Jack Warner's edict, reluctantly employed it, such issues were a staple of the format, and they live on in all their glory here, enhanced by the greater resolution of high definition.

As a result, what looks like a thick layer of grain or liberal coating of digital noise seems to saturate the image of 'Dial M for Murder,' but it's really just the effects of heavy processing. Some film grain remains visible, adding welcome warmth and texture, but it's by no means excessive. Medium and long shots tend to be fuzzy and at times murky, with slightly blurred edges and some nagging halos that give the film a gauzy look. Contrast is nicely pitched, however, adding a pleasant vibrancy to the picture."

i like prometheus but of all the alien movies is the one i like the less, my main gripe with it is a very simple one - it isnt as engaging as it should, it doesnt deliver on the action, the thrills, the suspense, or even the deep ideas of previous titles in the series even when in those they were only subtext unlike here. the set design while great despite the shipm the planet and the temple are really really meh and while there are good or amazing things on the script they do little with them or just push em aside, the actors are also really good but their characters in the end amount to nothing except shaw and david. this has indeed the worst characters on any of the series including the avps. yes the avps are silly b movie kinda fun, but at least they didnt set out to be philosofical just to skimp out on it mid way thru. i hate to sound crass or dumb here but they had guns amazing fx, amazing creature designs, and funny cheesy dialog it just didnt have the atmosphere prometheus had but heck i prefer that town in avp2 better than this its really 80s and everything feels right for an avp movie set on earth... the planet here is very bland, i didnt have the awesome sewers or the hospital nest etc. in prometheus the whole thing feels too fast, too expositional and it doesnt linger on where it should its like reading a comic book in which all panels are the same size and as fast as u can. its pretty much go find it they find it climaxes or reveals are all on at the wrong times or lack oomph - actually thats it for the themes it brings and the series it belongs it lacks a WHOLEEEE lotta oomph. The creatures are very meh too and barely show up or little importance they have overall for a movie thats supossed in a way 2 be a creature feature done really expensive and supposedely very elegantly and inteligently... they hint at that elegance and inteligence but never really give us what they're kinda promising with the subject matter. i know now that they were really confused and lost on this one specially with R.Scott's guidelines who seems to be he was kinda going like yeah thats a great idea kid but u dont know shit im a SIR so change it for something senile as me. see the making of and ull see it, that said i still think hes an amazing director(tho what little of the movie that is watchable is all due to his team) but this movie is his worst no doubt and if this is a sign of his upcoming movies it will be a sad sad thing to see... ive heard hes thinking of making blade runner 2 :S

All throughout Prometheus i was thinking to myself wow why didn't Ridley Scott rework this movie and called it Dead Space, because so many things in this movie reminds me of that game. And overall i think that that movie would be extremely effective instead of this. with Prometheus my main gripe was that i wish it was a standalone film instead of a prequel to Aliens. Other than that this movie was was like a rental for me.

Its weird, everytime I hear you guys complain about Prometheus, I agree with all your critisism, but everytime I actually watch the movie (of which I have seen 4 times now) I am just so engrossed by whats happening that I don't care about those things. Except the part about the map guy getting lost, thats just stupidity.

ET always scared me too much as a kid to watch and I am still not sure if I ever made it all the way through in one shot. Its one of those movies that just brings up something in my brain that says not to watch it.

I really think you railed into promethius fairly. I usually am harsher on it because of how bored I was while watching but your right it has some ok moments.

These extreme reactions to Prometheus are... hilarious to say the least. To compare this to AvP or its sequel is a little absurd. No matter what you think of these movies, they are very different kinds of sci-fi films. It’s like comparing 2001 to its sequel 2010.

That being said, It is not a great movie. I can let go of certain inconsistencies, but there are a couple of moments of ridiculousness that annoyed the hell out of me.

But the problems don’t stop me from liking this movie, which is what I believe divides many of the people of have seen it. To me, this universe is explored in a very interesting way. It leaves us with legitimate questions and mysteries. The idea that there isn't a straight forward explanation for everything in this movie makes it that much more fascinating. And maybe even a bit frightening. It's also a beautiful looking film with some great performances (that are bogged down by some dumb choices a couple characters make.) Despite the flaws, its still worth watching in my opinion.

As for that comment Cyrus made, just remember that he isn't an ignorant fool and that it probably came out the wrong way.

Other than that, it's just another good episode of Remote Viewing.

It was a simple silly little jab with nothing going for it. The response, though well intended, is too much and is simply just reaccionary.

Yippie 2 smart guys who are fanboys like me but still SPEAKETH THE TRUTH. OMEGA RANT INKOMING - Prometheus is a fucking wreck, i think its a bigger wreck than both avps considering than avp1 was paul ws anderson and the script wasnt so bad or his direction just the combining of both fucked it up royally and avp2 was much more fkin fun than this, it gave me at least what i wanted outta of aliens n preds duking it out... this... is ungodly pun intended now that i realise theres a pun lol. This was a totally bad idea, lets make an Alien movie without aliens. but thats not what makes it crap its all u guys said and the fact that it is lacking in all fronts. 0 action 0 terror 0 fanservice almost, its like a b movie from the 50s with a huge budget and one that isnt very fun and takes itself too seriously to even be fun on any level. Funny that i heard this one hour after watching the first 1h n 20 of the making of (which i dled of course) i have absolute certainity that it wasnt spaiths or the other guy it was RIdley indeed who fucked it up like a SIR. the best example is his idea of making the space jockey just a suit(great idea) and then fucking it up by making the wearer a humanoid type alien(i see what he was going for but... with the cover and with the reveal in the operation scene it was pointless and stupid). I guess these guys when they get old they start to do senile movies and this was totally a senile film just kinda like weyland in the movie failing big time. Its like he saw Dan O Bannon die and Giger being almost ready to bite the dust and he rushed this like hell. The only one whos safe in that aspect is Jim Cameron and lets say Avatar's story wasnt much of a story but i think he himself knew it and he delivered on what he had to - a fucking spectacle like no other before. I have the notion i got some crap at avpgalaxys forum cause everyone was praising it like fanboys while i posted a 3h written rant. the second viewing tho i liked it much much more to the point of giving it a 4 but seriously this is a 3 at best and a low 3 thinking this is from the guy who started it all and now made the worst alien out of the 5 with no argument possible. The others fucked it up (i like avp2 but its silly as hell) but they were fanboys now the 1st director screwed it up. Why couldnt the fucking engineer be guarded by loads of xenos? was that that hard to figure out? it had one of the most pathetic blockbuster creature fight climaxes ever, 20 secs there u go. And now he probably killed off the Alien series making the studio go for more of this unless they add xenos at some point. I wonder how avp couldave been if fox had givien green light at scott\cameron for avp and how the series couldave evolved from there or if Dan O Bannon was still alive and involved in this project. And these extras i was hoping the extras would make me like the movie more and at least like the making of better than the movie like hellboy1 and both avps but no, theres so little in the movie to begin with that im suprised i excpected otherwise. Another good franchise killed just like Splatterhouse 2 years ago(which was actually awesome) and NOES n F13. I wanted this to be my remake reboot wtv of choice, aw well. Only Predators pulled it off, at least i got that.

Cyrus,  I've always had alot of respect for you as a person and have not held any of your political or spiritual beliefs aganist you. What you just said about Republican voters I believe to be inexcusable and wrong. I have never or would never allow any woman to be beaten or bullied by a man just because it's considered fair or normal. Neither would any Republican I know. There are many things I don't stand for that the Republican party does, but there I far more agendas I disagree on with the Democrats. I am not intolerant, and I do not hate people or are too lazy or selfish to sit back and let cruel things happen to other people. Two of my best friends are homosexuals, and two other of my best friends have been overseas as soldiers and patched up our own wounded men in addition to wounded civilians, some that were beaten by their husbands. All but one of us vote Republican.

I understand there are some gross intolerant and hateful people out there. Myself and my friends are not among them. So please do not lump as all into one neat category. Please, I love this show and this site, and I don't want to have to stop listening and leave because your political biases are unfairly labeling me as something I'm not. It was a poor judgement comment and I would appreciate no further broad accusing remarks at the entire red party's expense. Bash intolerant people all you want, but not Republicans as a whole. Thank you.
