It was Sonic and Knuckles that you could connect Sonic 3 on top of it to extend the gameplay. The reason for that was because it was initially one game that they split into two games. So the games together actually play well into each other and the "story" connects as well. Crazy Sega but was so fun

Sonic & Knuckles was the seperate game that had the slot on the top to stick other games onto. By putting Sonic 3 or Sonic 2 in you could play as knuckles in both those games. Sonic 3 was supposed to have Knucles playable as well as more levels, but they cut the Sonic& Knuckles content from Sonic 3. Instead S&K was released later/seperately. in this way, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles bleed into eachother when played together.
In addition, any other games put into Sonic & Knuckles had the ability to randomly generate the special stage based on the code from whatever game was entered.

Is it just me or has Resident Evil 6 become the Spill's new My Little Pony? That is, NO ONE WILL FUCKING MOVE ON. I don't really care for the RE series as a whole (never could get into it) so it's a little tiring hearing about it on every other page and podcast. Doesn't really bother me a whole lot, it's more of a fly in your car that keeps flying around your head while you drive.
