I've never played DOOM 3 before so I'm exited to get this, even though it's a bit redundant considering I already have DOOM 1 and 2 on XBLA.
Considering my current money issues, I'll wait until it drops to $20.

The Doom guy in this game should had been the chick with the three boobs from Total Recall, and it needed to be super sexist, HEAVY METAL STYLE.

I'm with you Michael Maxwell the Great.
You know...attacking the premise of Doom 3 is kinda of low I think. Are the plots to Silent HIll and Resident Evil any more complicated or even that different? I'm sorry I'm a big fan of the Loading Bar, but I feel that this harsh criticism is a bit harsh. (But I'll admit that I am looking through the 'Rose Colored glasses of nostalgia')
An other note: The 'Monster Closet' element is something they kept form the original game. I found it fun because the idea that even the environment is under Hell's control is an interesting dynamic albeit somewhat repetitive.

There is one moment in this game that always gets me, you enter a room and a monster closet opens with nothing in there, and then ANOTHER monster closet opens inside that monster closet and an imp ataques. Then a i shoot him and i dies, true story.

Im i the only one who thinks that the lighting effects are better than before but the texture resolution has been toned down a bit.

I love Doom 3. It gets a lot of shit for many different reasons, but it's one of my favorite games of all time. Really. I can't believe how much hate Doom 3 still gets.
I might go as far as to say that Doom 3 is a perfect game. Not story wise, since the story has many plot holes, but atmospheric wise. The setting is great, the gameplay is fun and the sounds are astounding. Seriously, I love the sounds. That's one of the reasons why this game is so tense. I was creeped out just by the loud, ear penetrating machinery, since it makes it impossible to tell if there's an enemy behind something.
Yet, there's one thing I wish they didn't change, and that would be the flashlight. That's another reason why Doom 3 was tense. They should've, at least, made it an option to take the armor-mounted flashlight off and allow you to hold it in your hand.
I still find this game enjoyable and even a little frightening at times.

Kragseth, I know what you mean about not giving you a breather, but that's what I love about it. It makes everything super tense. Playing alone with the lights off with the sound cranked up has always made playing DOOM 3 an "event" gaming experience for me.

DOOM and DOOM 2 are reason enough to get this game! I grew up on these games. I remember being 12-13 years old playing these the 1st time. This was also the very 1st game I ever played online with a friend on dial-up! lots of nostalgia to be had... that said?
I don't know how enjoyable the old style graphics would be for newer gamers who had not played them before. They are extremely dated... and then there's DOOM 3... I have my own personal problems with it, but I think that's just because I didn't like how they updated a lot of things from the previous games.
The mechanics are dated (no scope zoom on any weapons, etc.) and the graphics are still 10 years behind current gen titles. They gave the graphics a little facelift, but it's not enough to compete with today's graphics. DOOM 3 has a great atmosphere, but I found the overall experience very frustrating. After an hour of playing D3 all I wanted to do was go back to the classics.
I recommend getting this if you grew up on them, but current HALO/Borderlands/COD players should probably wait for it to hit the bargain bins or skip it entirely. COOP and DeathMatch on D1 and D2 can be hella fun though!

I remember playing the original Doom in college on the PC where there was a hack to turn all the demons into the Energizer bunny. Much like its predecessor Wolfenstein (boy that dates me) gun porn shooter games weren't designed to be taken seriously but a more sophisticated Gauntlet meets Smash TV in the arcade. Basically it's a militaristic bag lady picking up shit, half of which you probably don't need to kill things without any purpose. Part of a whole generation of guiltless fun but let's be blunt...there's NO character to this game, which the Halos went and changed the game altogether (as well as other games). This is a fun alternative to smacking your head really hard with an iron because its so monotonous. I really enjoyed this review. Some good points.
