Podcasts - Remote Viewing Episode 34

This week, Brian and Luke continue to hold down the fort, or the RV rather. They are joined by very special guest Will Goss from Film.com as they break down the likes of 'The Amazing Spider-Man', 'Arthur Christmas', and the new Kurosawa Criterion Blu. On top of all that, they discuss the burning question: how soon is too soon to prepare for the holidays? Hold on to your chestnuts, kiddies, it's Remote Viewing time!

    Alright, here is the image for "The Amazing Spider-Man" blu-ray Brian was complaining about...

    Sunset is the word we are looking for here. I know, I work in an office and one of the minor perks I get is to see the sunset everyday through the large windows. This is what they look like.

    @Fungusmonkey I read your lengthy review of ASM when it first came out on the audio review comment section. As much as I respect your opinion I saw the movie 3 times now (twice in theaters and once at home) and still think it's completely sucks the shit.

    Amazing Spider-Man was complete ass. But now that the origin stuff is out of the way, I'll give the sequel another chance...

    I LOVE A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL!

    Also, I remember seeing it when it came out...I was 2.....this 20 year anniversary makes me feel old at 22. Gonna have to pick this new release of it up. That is all I have to add to this conversation :)

    about the Amazing Spiderman...go back and watch the first three..there are so many cartoony moments and lamesause. or watch Nostalgic Critic's top 11 awkward spiderman moments. those first three havent aged well at all. the cg looks bad. acting is cheese beyond belief. seriously, go back and watch those and see how outdated they are

    @GyroZepp,

    I agree about the whole ganali device thing, but I'm able to forgive it because there are much worse tropes than the old "hey, look at that thing" chestnut. If there had been a dream sequence or Peter seemingly telling Gwen the truth only to be revealed as just practicing than, yeah, you'd be hearing some bitching from me.

    Wow, the Arthur Christmas release really reminds me of the old days when one would have to wait a year for something to get released on VHS. And I fucking loved Ruby Sparks! Haven't had a romance movie hit me as hard as it did since Chasing Amy. I loved it for pretty much all the same reasons too! Great episode, guys! And welcome to the show, Mr. Goss!

    I'd post a long and lengthy response, but I've done that before and it doesn't really change anything. People are either determined not to like it, or it's simply just not their thing, or they simply wanted a different vision of Spider-Man than a lot of the fans did. No biggy. It made fistfuls of money, built a fanbase, and successfully kickstarted a new franchise and got a second film greenlit. Despite my opinion that it was a pretty faithful modernization of the original 60s Spider-Man, it did precisely what it was meant to do and my only hope is that TASM 2 wins over more of it's detractors.

    @zware

    The half in the bag review for the amazing spiderman is the best. It really explains how I feel about it. REdlettermedia is awesome.

    Rashomon is a great film, one of my all time favorites. However, everything Kurosawa made was fantastic, my favorite(s) is either Seven Samurai or High and Low but they are all amazing and worth watching. On the Spiderman review I thought you guys nailed it, it was terrible, but I don't have a problem with them going for a different Peter Parker or a goth Peter as long as it makes sense and is done well within the film, but it clearly wasn't. Also how many times can we have a superhero plot-line that is some sort of gas that is going to turn people into something or kill them. I mean I know films recycle plots, but if your going to do that then at least make up for it with characters, humor, or action and Spiderman failed miserably on those fronts. It goes to show that it isn't easy making a popular product like, Spiderman successful, which really shows how great Nolan and Whedon are. Considering how they made their superhero franchises pleasing both fans and critics alike.

    Jesus Sant0s, can you make all your comments in one fucking post! And I think The amazing spiderman was a boring piece of schlock.

    Yeah I'm a huuuuuuuge Spider-Man fan and I didn't like The Amazing Spider-Man movie either. It was meh, full of plot holes, and Peter Parker just didn't feel like Peter Parker to me. The action was good, but other than that it was not all that great.

    @Big Chris_Compton Animator,

    Jeremy Jahns review of The Amazing Spider-Man is my favorite.

    And just so you know, I don't think Amazing Spider-Man is a perfect film. It does have its flaws (pacing being the biggest one), but I still found it to be an enjoyable take on the character especially after having heard so much negativity towards it beforehand.
