If this game series would been with Batman, it would've been a single downloadable game.

@ Jack Mooney it's called science fiction. Emphasis on the fiction

Just completed the 3rd game and  100% agree with every thing said in this spoiler cast great game but they really dropped the ball on some pivotal story elements in this series..

    @ Jack Mooney

Isn't there something called 'ancestral memory' or something like that? The example I read about was Aboriginies in Australia fearing and describing extinct animals to explorers because they still recalled them through a shared ancestral memories of them. It was something like that, I don't mean they had connected memories, but it might have sort of been like how you don't need someone to tell you a lion is dangerous, you KNOW it is dangerous even without ever knowing they exist.

I really don't understand the hullabaloo around the story of a guy who can tap in to the memories of his ancestors THAT'S NOT HOW MEMORIES WORK DAMMIT! Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is fun, but the story smells like stephanie meter's take on science-fiction. I played the game muted after a while because the story just got too fucking stoooopid for my taste and was ruining an otherwise fun game

@Fungusmonkey The ending was more Sequel Bait, given next gen coming up, its more then likely. But one idea that was tossed in a line of dialog between Shaun and Desmond was when he says after this is over, he wants to use the Animus to go "all the way back". Now imagine the next game takes place during the war between the humans and the ancients as Desmond tries to learn how to defeat Juno in the present.

Also hit me up on 360, my Gamertag is Evilteddy03. You, Jeff and I can tear up some multiplayer.

    CHA!

@fungusmonkey you're right that they don't say only Desmond can touch it but they make a point of saying your touch will save the world talking to Desmond. so his dad could touch it hell they could all lick it if they wanted but it wouldn't do anything unless Desmond was the 1 touching it because of like i said before his "magic" DNA.

And yeah i remember the whole thing about he must find the girl who yeah isn't Rebecca. Which is why i don't think or at least i hope Desmond isn't dead. but i can see this girl who ever she is being the new modern day protagonist if Desmond is actually gone. i don't know the ending is week, but i just hope its an abrupt and week attempt of a cliff hanger/ fake out to the end of A game. Instead of an abysmal and pointless end to a characters story arc

@Tom - I might be starting to mentally block out the ending already, but I don't recall them ever saying that ONLY Desmond could touch the orb. Seems like they just needed him to unlock the mystery and open the door. I may be forgetting a key piece of dialog. Speaking of forgotten dialog- what ever happened with the whole "find Eve" thing that Juno told Desmond in Brotherhood? There was that whole bit about there being another woman beside Demond at the end. (and I don't think she was referring to the tech girl)

On the whole i like the game, but i can’t disagree with anything you guys have said. To me the ending seems like it’s trying to ape the ending to Brotherhood and leave you on a cliff hanger and wanting more. Because there is no way this is the last game in the franchise and it’s not the last one with Desmond. i reckon in the next game or couple of games it will go into the templars and assassins trying to team up 2 stop minerver doing her evil shit by using the Animus to find artefacts that will help them that ancestors of Desmond used in their own time and Hid so that no one ells would use them for evil. And go into all the things you said you wanted to see at the end of this one.

@fungusmonkey. The reason Desmond's dad didn't and couldn't have taken the built for Desmond is because they don't share all the ancestors. Ezio and Conner are not descendants of Altiar and are themselves not related. It’s a point the games don't really go into but should do and make super clear is that the reason Desmond is special is that he is the apex of all these diffident blood lines which carry the genetic makeup of the ones that came before coming to gether in 1 person, Desmond. The reason Altiar Ezio and Connor  have eagle vision and can handle the apples and artefacts better than most is because their DNA has the strongest amount of DNA from the ones that came before. And it’s all these different blood lines that have been passed down through the ages and have culminated in Desmond who has the highest amount of for lack of a better word magic DNA since before the sun explode the 1st time. So Desmond and his dad defiantly share Connor but the idea is that there is potentially 100s of ancestors who's only thing in common is Desmond whose stories we haven't seen. Yet

I didn't hate Connor as much as you guys did, but he was like what Altair was to me, ok but nothing special.  The ending of the game was so god damn generic and the cliff hanging endings really need to stop.  They prove nothing after you do it for four straight games.  I was fine with Desmond in the first two games until the stupid Aliens got involved trying to give Desmond something to do.  I really wish you could play more as Haythem more, because he wasn't as evil as the whole Templar's were supposed to be.  The Templars in AC3 seemed reasonable in their claims, where normally they were the bad guys, whether that was poor writing or just laziness on not expanding on the Templar/Assassin truce possibility.  I did hate that Ubisoft had a key plot point in a DLC.  It was kinda obvious that Lucy was a double agent but it was never stated in any retail game up until AC3.  The glyph puzzles in AC2 and AC:Brotherhood were fun, but fuck those god damn picture/key puzzle, those were hard as shit.  Also, I want to know the reasoning for adding the dumbest lock picking mechanic in a game.

Ahhhh!! I won't listen to this audio until after I get a chance to play through AC3. You guys have me very curious to find out what this spoiler cast is about. Does this make it official then, is AC3 is the final game in the AC franchise?

I was waiting for you guys to post this podcast for a while as I was eager to know what you guys thought of the game and its shitty ending. And I must say this was fucking FANTASTIC! this was a great discussion and a great assessment of the series as a whole. And i got nothing to add to it. I agree with and liked everything you guys brought up and talked about! everything from Connors story, the potential with the native american tragedy, the father issues,Demond and Lucy and the lack of choice and ofcourse the ending itself...just all Great! WELL DONE! :D

PS: Oh and FUCK YOU Ubisoft for making main story plots into DLCs throughout a five game series and then make no effort and give us a Half Ass Lazy Bullshit result of an ending! (And deadlines is not an excuse, work on the ending at the beginning of production if you have to.)Anyway Its been a pleasure to spend money on your franchise Ubisoft you cash grab and again fuck you! :D yours truly..

Skipped Mass Effect 3 and this all together. What's with all these promising trilogies this year failing miserably at finishing what they started?

You know its funny I've always thought the endings to the Assassins Creed games have always been major WTFs. But even after preparing myself I was not ready for such a lazy bullshit ending lol. At least Mass Effect 3's ending was epic in its badness & for better or worst atl east it was an actual end. AC3 just kinda crapped out after 5 games.

Also what was up with introducing Cross from the comics & re-introducing Dr,Vidic only to kill them off in a really anti climatic ways?

    @ Jeff http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2012/10/30/assassins-creed-3-ending.htm

    Take a look at this...

wow, I'd heard it was kinda bad, but this sounds like Mass Effect 3 all over again - can we expect an Assassins Creed Extended Cut DLC to make the ending slightly less sucky?

59:50 - GAH!!!  Another DLC?!?!?!  *stabs them*

Nah, I'm not really mad.  I was interested in hearing about the game, but not much into playing it.  That said, I am tired of companies doing all this DLC stuff.  :-/

@Dodge - Nope. Other way around. Minerva is the one that spoke to Ezio. Juno is the one that wants to be set free on the Earth.

  • November 15, 2012 at 10:45 PM, said ...

Guys you have the names backwards Juno was the good one and Minerva was the bad guy.
