Better than previous Halo games, but it's still Halo. The new enemies are fine for a while, but they just keep regurgitating them and the new weapons are just old weapons with new skins. The story is better, in that there actually IS a story, but I was never a fan of Halo and there isn't enough here to change that perspective for me. It is worth a Bargain Bin, but not much more than that unless you're a Halo junkie.

The fuck is this about enemy variety?

Halo had the flood and brutes prior.  The new enemies this game were a fine addition and I never got tired since they were all pretty diverse.

A lot of other shooters don't have enemy variation period (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, CoD, BF, and MoH), It's just one enemy you're shooting over and over.

And the guns aren't diverse? What? Then you must hate the pre-mentioned games to death.

I thought the level design was repetitive, but it is 343's first time out and they did a fine job regardless. I enjoyed the first section of the last level.  The graphical upgrade was phenomenal and the story was actually pretty touching.  I didn't care for Master Chief in Halo 1-3, but I really liked him this game and of course Cortana was awesome.

Full Price.  If you like Halo, you'd like this.

@Lantern Cazz ...but he gave it a full price...So it's the shit that's totally worth your money. trolling trolls aside. I really enjoyed Halo 4 it's a great game in terms of epic single player and the addicting multiplayer. But one thing i'd like to point out *Spoilers btw* did anyone else feel like 343 borrowed some stuff from star wars and indiana jones like the way that doctor in mission 7 died felt very much like the ark of the covenant. Also the beginning of the last level felt alot like the death star run in episode 4(It was epic don't get me wrong).

I agree with Jason. It's the same ol' shit.

Loved the story but the gameplay was a little on the repetetive side with the lack of enemy variety. 3 different new enemies and only 3 covenant types. Loved the Multiplayer WAY more than I thought I would though. Full Price.

i love the halo universe and the story and how 343 industries have modified the story from what bungie ended on. I really enjoyed the story which is basicly  cortannas story but i do agree the missions need to be changed a bit it is very repetitive. agree with jeffs rating and hope the next two games are even better.

I agree with Jeff, the thing I like about the Halo multiplayer compared to other shooters is that it isn't first to be seen, first to be killed. You actually dance around and depending how good the aim of the other person is and how well you move and react you still have a chance of winning.

I talked with Jason a bit about this, but as a big Halo fan, I can't fault you guys for your negative thoughts about Halo, especially the campaign. I know the story isn't shown well in the games, mostly in the extended universe, but I liked the ground work they put down in Halo 1 and then went out and found it. Also, what you clearly really liked about the multiplayer keeps me coming back, but then I also really like the continuing story, even if what they give you in game isn't that deep compared to what the actual universe lore is.

Its a series that I love and keeps me coming back again and again, but I totally get why not everyone loves, or even really likes it and I'm ok with that. I appreciate Jeff looking into the deeper story in the game's universe and that Jason actually found some of the fun of the multiplayer.

Noobs! You are all FPS NOOBS! BF3 is the greatest FPS of all times! And Jason, camper's are just the definition of a NOOB! :DDD JK

Hey guys Love the reviews and playthroughs. Thank you and keep 'em coming. I have bought so many games now because of this new portion to Spill. I love it!

Oh, and many people think Halo is hollow on top. Like you guys said, Halo behind the scene's is a masterpiece of Science ficiton. I really hope they continue to add stuff from the books in the game.

I have to disagree with you guys there. What I look forward to the most when halo comes out is the campaign. I love the story so much and want to see where it goes. And really, what it comes down to, is like you said, it's fucking halo, what'd you expect. If you love sci fi be prepared to get all that scifi talk you were talking about, all scifi does it. But that is a minor complaint of mine, not alot got answered from halo 3. Like: why is the covenant an enemy again, who the fuck really is the didact. And one thing I loved about this game was the level of emotion that they brought into the game. It's something halo never did before. So yeah, I love the multiplayer but what I really look forward to is the campaign and progression of the story, and I think many halo fans will agree. Again, it's halo man!

It's funny hearing Jason talk about "scifi bullshit" when he will defend the prequels....

Yes Jeff give in to the dark side of Halo fandom.

While I think it was good, I think the people claiming 343 have somehow out Bungie'd Bungie need to take that stuff down a notch.  It's an on par entry to the series; two and Reach are still my favorites.  I'd have liked to see some more new stuff added to the game and less focus on the Covenant again.  I think if they're going to go down this humanizing the Master Chief route then they are going to have to abandon this rule about hiding his face.  Those scenes didn't really do much for me because of that (also because I'm fairly certain that the next game is going to undo the big plot point from this game) or they were borderline hilarious.  Just kept thinking of that scene in Space Balls and imagined Master Chief was secretly making faces at everyone under that helmet.  Yes, Cortana I'm totally concerned about that rampancy problem of yours... :P

29:30 - Because I don't have my 360 attached to the internet and it helps me not stay on a game too long per day. So single player, whooo!

11:50 - Aw, man... just when I was digging the sound of all of this, the multiplayer is the highlight? It's okay, I'm a Halo noob so I'll probably still love this (as I won't know any better).

Professor Jeff there is a very logical explanation as to why after extended periods of exposure you've grown to like Halo.  It's called Stockholm Syndrome.

    I love this game.
Probably the best Halo since 2. It was some what disappointing to not see Arbiter have at least a cameo, does anyone else think this?

Halo 4 sucks my nuts boys

    @Eric Joseph Garland

Oh yeah, I know that they're in there. Unfortunately the fact that they're hidden away is one of the reasons I knocked this game down from a perfect score. Resident Evil 6 did the same thing and I'm not willing to let that shit slide. If you are purposefully hiding information that the player needs to be more invested in you're story, I've got news for you... you're doing it wrong.

I've loved the Halo franchise since the first game that came with my original xbox way back when I was 10 or so. It's near and dear to me and after having finished the campaign and playing multiplayer for a bit I can honestly say that, in my opinion, 343i has really made something special here. I've always enjoyed the fiction of the Halo universe and while it can get dense and confusing, this campaign is the best one yet. The relationship between Cortana and Chief is more important than the new galactic threat Chief must eliminate and through Cortana we really do get to see a very human, very fragile side of him that we've never seen before. Chief to me was always a larger than life character that I really had no emotional connection with; he was just a badass soldier. Halo 4 managed to introduce so many emotions into the game through the Chief/Cortana dynamic and it held up throughout the campaign. I honestly can't wait for Halo 5 to see what's coming next. Not to mention we've now got a new big bad (those who've played the campaign know who I'm talking about) so I really want to see where that goes as well.

Jeff, you say Halo hasn't changed much and I agree, it really hasn't, It's found a formula that works and its stuck with it and been pretty successful in doing so. There is some changes to the multiplayer in this installment such as the ordinance drops and loadouts (which still can be turned off in certain modes, which is a nice option for those who want a classic Halo match) and I really like that 343i is evolving the franchise while still retaining a majority of what makes Halo, well, Halo. Just like the COD franchise, the basic formula hasn't changed much because people love what these games are. Until people are tired of them and sales decline to such a point, I don't think we're going to see much change. Not that I'm complaining, I'll always be there to get the next installment in the Halo franchise.

FYI Professor Jeff, that drawn-out backstory you wanted out of Halo 4 was already in the game; they're called terminals:

In my opinion, Halo 4 only plays similar to the previous games because it's a 360 release, and too many new innovations and features right before the release of the new consoles will spoil the Halo franchise, with people demanding more out of the games than it requires.

In short, I really, really enjoy Halo 4 for what it is, and taking into account its awesome climax and the potential that Halo 5 will be a next-gen release, the sequel will allow 343i to reboot the gameplay for both single and multiplayer into something even better!

Figured that this would be a standard, generic Halo game.  It also, now, makes sense as to why IGN thinks that Halo 4 is the best game of 2012. lol
