    The performances and script just didn't express the depth and meaning of the novel. Once you get past the pretty visuals there isn't much there to grab onto. RENTAL - a pretty but dull adaptation of one of my favourite novels.

    From the trailers, this movie seems a lot like the Bolshoy Ballet version of "Anna Karenina" that toured around in the 1980's.  That would explain the theater type setting.

    Once again, Jude Law plays his forever role of being "That British Guy"... In a Russian based film...

    I hate the English pronunciation of "Karenina," its so annoying, would have been better to stick with Russian.

    You have the name Karen, you have the name Nina.   Karen ends in the same sound as Nina starts.  KareNina.  That's how I was taught to say pronounce it growing up...

    At 6:05 in the review, Korey says he could care less about the love story. That means he must care about it to some degree. I think you meant to say "Couldn't care less", which would imply your level of care is already at the minimum possible amount.

    Correction:  Possibly Korey's F*ck yous.  I'm actually looking forward to the next Friedberg/Seltzer abomination just for his review alone.

    I don't think there's anything better than CoHost with a negative review.

    @Lionel 192

    Cooke was making a joke regarding the Co-Host's nationality. A quite clever joke, if I say so myself.

    Just a personal observations on accents: I always found Russian accents to sound thick as I do Italian accents, while Spanish, Portuguese (at least heard in Socom II) and German accents tend to have a harsh edge to them. French accents are probably the most delicate sounding accents to my ear while Irish accents sound melodious. As for British accents, they range from rough and thick to light and elequent. I don't know why filmmakers keep using British accents when doing Russian or French characters (like Hugo), but if the film and acting is good enough, it tends be forgotten as the film wears on. I do remember the television movie of Frankenstein where William Hurt pretty much had the only German accent in the Ingolstad scenes while everyone else spoke with a British accent and I wondered how that movie would have been if the other actors used Swiss and German accents instead of British ones. As for this movie, I'm intrigued to see what they've done with the sets and cinematography but would have loved to be excited to sit through the actual story.

    Anna Karenina isn't supposed to be about a love story, a good woman or a good romance. The whole point is that Anna is a horrible person. I don't know why they marketed it as a love story ugh.

    Co-Host, your description of this movie is how I feel about Prometheus... so I understand how a pretty movie can be terrible.

    @Cooke What are you talking about, you moron?

    Do you have any idea how unbelievably stupid your comment is?

    Couldn't disagree with you guys more. I saw this about a week ago and I was blown away. I was involved and in love with the movie and its story the entire way through. The only thing wrong with this is, as you said, Count Kick-Ass. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was SOOOO the wrong choice for this role and was wooden through 70% of this movie. Other than that, this is Best Picture material for me.

    Clearly this movie fails if you came away feeling anything other than conflicted about each character. The beauty of the book certainly is in its nuance. I'm a bit torn to see this myself because I love the book so much.

    The best theatrical release of this for me will always be the Vivien Leigh version. They jettison the Levin thread and focus on Anna to great effect.  Vivien Leigh and Ralph Richardson give superb performances, and as a viewer you experience far more of the depth of character involved.

    But guys, could we please tone down on the slut shamming?  She only slept with two men in her life, calling her a slut and a c*@# is extreme and unfair.

    I agree with Co-Host. Russian accents are nasty sounding, but they're not as nasty sounding as Hispanic accents.
