Um, guys? The fact that it has a separate charger is BRILLIANT. You don't have to be near the device to charge it now! Just plug it into to whatever plug is closest in your bedroom or bathroom and yer good to go!

I agree with Jeff. I think it's neat and pretty cool to have if you have one, but I can patiently wait until I hear what the system has to offer in the upcoming months. Plus I think I can speak for a lot us when I say we are all curious about the new Ps4/720 (whatever they call it) can bring onto the plate to compete against this. And if the Nintendo Wii U can bring me (Dead Space 3, Bioshock Infinite, The new Tomb Raider, etc) then I might purchase this sooner than later but I doubt that those games will be on Wii U, at least not for now anyway.

Lol, do you really think they did the controller charger thing on purpose? One extra power outlet isn't the worst thing for true hd finally being available.

@ lexloco this is true, the first thing they teach in computer science hardware is that the costs of keeping a chip small enough to fit in a computer or console and to perform better is an exponential function in terms of price increase in relation to time & progress (rough summary).

Serious gaming means something completely different than what you're getting at. You're just talking about the average Joe playing games. not anything legit about it since you're not making any money out of it. Honestly Pikmin is in the same level as Assasin's creed.

I do think PS4/NeXtbox will be more powerful AND have a lot of the same multimedia features as WiiU and will probably package them more maturely, so I'm not rushing out to get a WiiU right now. I'm just saying that I don't think we can tell how powerful WiiU is based on their launch lineup, and since it will probably be the cheapest, it doesn't have to be as pretty as competitors so long as it can hold its own and play basically the same games. I dont' think it'll have trouble doing that because I don't think there's a lot of places for games left to go in terms of photorealism.

I am completely unconvinced the gap between WiiU and PS4 / Xboxwhatever is going to be as great as people seem to think it is. It's definitely not going to be anything like the gap between Xbox360/PS3 and Wii. I say this because of the escalating cost associated with better and better graphics. If development costs get too high, prices are going to have to rise past $60. If prices rise beyond $60, fewer games will sell. There are a lot of games priced at $60 right now that aren't worth it. So basically, there's going to come a time when we reach a threshold level where its just not worth it to make a game look any better, and I think this is the first generation where we're really going to start feeling that play out.
In any case, cartoony art styles don't show off a system's graphical prowess, and 3rd party developers who have no experience with coding for this new machine, and nearly a decade of experience coding for PS3/Xbox360, are not going to make games that really take advantage of the hardware that's there. I dont' think we'll really know what the WiiU is capable of until we get a mature-oriented 1st party Nintendo game (like a Metroid, Zelda, or FZero game). Nintendo really screwed the pooch not having anything like this at launch, but I think it'll take seeing what Nintendo can do with their own hardware to really get a metric for how powerful this thing is.

Since we're still at direct x 11 in households and hardware like this is selling at a loss at the 300$ mark, then I'm expecting the new consoles to come out around 2014 just like how playstation hinted towards during an interview.
I am amused at how we're at a deadzone for game releases because they can't release same shit with slightly improved graphics.

@stiver
theres no need for any smart ass quips when you know exactly what i mean, but just in case:
by hardcore i guess i mean games that are traditionally accepted as something within the gaming sub culture type thing, less family friendly non- casual games, idk there ight be a different term or whatever, all i'm saying wii sports is not what i'd call a gamer's game its more of a casual game, while games like assassin's creed will only be played by more serious gamers. (by serious i mean like legit gamers).

I think it can be summed up to this:
If you are a Nintendo gamer and owned a Wii, this is going to be your dream console. It gives you all the Nintendo games in lovely HD, and now you can play third party games too. It's the best of both worlds, and you will love it.
However, if you own a XBox or PS3....... this is an extremely hard sell. A PS3 is under $200 right now with the 360 even cheaper. And with a new console on the way within a year, you might want to wait for that instead. The Wii-U is just too expensive to be buying as a second console, and it'll probably need a few software updates before it becomes more solid. On the whole, it's a huge improvement for Nintendo, but will have a hard time remaining competitive I am guessing.....

I don't want to get into an argument over semantics, but with no dedicated servers, dumbed down gameplay and a low skill ceiling, I'd hardly call COD or Halo "hardcore" games.

just to be clear i'm referring to 3rd party developers and whether or not they will still be drawn to the wii U after the new xbox and ps come out.
xbox and ps3 3rd party games sell up to 15 mill (COD mW3), and thats not adding the two together, while the wii's top 3rd party developed game that was just dance 3 which sold around 9 million copies. The top i guess hardcore game (3rd party) for the wii sold around 3 mill and that was lego batman.
COD players would rather play COD with better graphics if given the choice, same goes for GTA or fifa or battlefield or assassin's creed. so once again why will 3rd party developers be drawn to the wii U if it will be underpowered once the new consoles come out? I'm not hating on the wii U and i sure it may be better than the current xbox and ps, but it will only be for like a year/ until the new consoles come out.

@stiverlooking at sales data on wii vs ps3 or xbox 360 games its clear that per console the PS3 and xbox 360 have much higher software attach rates, meaning that owners of ps3 or xboxs on average tend to own signifigantly more games than owners of the wii.
http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41238/Global/
Check yourself, every week the only consistant wii game that sold in the top 10 was wii sports and the new mario. The chart is like 90% of the time dominated by ps3 and xbox 360 games. And more often than not the best selling games for the wii were developed by nintendo, why would any third party developer be drawn to that?

Total sold, and Total gross are two very different concepts. The PS2 was sold at a loss of a long time. It is impossible to determine if it outgrossed the nintendo consoles that were sold at a profit.
