the movie got 66% on RottenTomatoes 'Though it suffers from tonal inconsistency and a lack of truly insightful retrospection, Hitchcock is elevated by inspired performances from its two distinguished leads.'

I actually thought the film worked very well
fantastic performances from the leads, Hopkins, Mirren and Johansson all do marvelously
the film looks like it's going to focus on the biography of one of cinema's most famous directors
but it actually covers his filmmaking experience along with his marriage on the rocks on the bumpy road to make his next big masterpiece
Hitchcock tries to cut through corners to get the production rolling and he tries to not be suaded by studio executives, getting his seal of approval and being very risque
at the time his vision was very controversial, many considered that a film of this caliber wasn't as appealing
the story at times feels very disjointed considering they use the character of Ed Gein a lot as his spiritual advisor
it also feels off that his wife, Alma has certain issues with his life's work
but the film still keeps its own thanks to some talented people, a dominant score and good makeup effects
there were also some amazing appearances from actors long gone such as a Anthony Perkins stand-in and Jessica Biel as Vera Myles
the movie is a great tribute to other great examples of horror, too
nothing says success like a filmmaker who loves murder and scaring audiences
Hitchcock remains the master of suspense and his most famous work, Psycho still holds the title for setting the bar for the modern horror genre
this is a good film that forever immortalizes the prestigious director

I almost drooled when I saw both Biel and Johansson in the same film!

Did y'all walk out halfway through the film?

I think the bits with Gein were there to illustrate how deep he goes into the character as a director.  Hitchcock channels Gein in order to tell his story.

I felt the pressure in the relationship between Hitch and Alma growing, and I did not get the sense that anyone thought the directors treatment of women was "cute".  He came off as reserved, not comic, to me.

Well the Spill crew is not aware of   how film makers marketed there film during the time of Physco, Hitchcock trailers to Psycho and other films had him walking around describing the setting this was a product of his time. I have not seen the film, but I can tell by your responses some of you are not as knowledgeable on the director.

I learned a lot about him believe it or not in one of my ENG courses in college

Here is the trailer which I think you guys are conveying to in the movie (I have not yet seen it so I do know for certain) And by the way the serial killer in the original Psycho is loosely based off Ed Gein like you guys mentioned, and Ed Gein grew up a Xenophobic and was very close to his mother, so the reflection of his sexual gender confusion contributes to this aspect of Ed Gein which was inspired by him.

For Scarlet Johanson in the Avengers, she's the character that did the most stuff in the movie. Maybe she didn't have the biggest emotional journey like the others but it's because her character is a fairly stable emotional place during it unlike Tony, Steve or Bruce. I still feel Black Widow was among the more important characters of that movie.

    women ( plural ) woman ( singular ) ( sorry :/ )

Korey, you said women don't get shit to do in Hollywood these days, citing Scarlett Johansson's performance in Avengers and Jessica biel in Total Recall. But those were both action movies, where the emphasis isn't on acting or character development. I don't those movies particularly highlight the acting ability of the male leads either.

I don't hate Billy. He seems like a cool guy. I just think he doesn't share the same interests as Korey and Co Host, and it unintentionally tends to suck the energy out of Lets Do This (at least for me) when they get into discussion about something and he isn't really into it (like with Halloween - last year's show was way more entertaining and funny).

"Dial M for mrder" could have been better but fo a movie back in the day it was good to great only because you knew who the killer was.

I'm with you guys all the way on this one, I've read one Hitchcock biography (a life in darkness and light) and I have seen most of his films. This movie angered me in parts, I felt it was a complete misrepresentation of Hithcock and how he worked on the set and his relationship with his wife, and his co-stars. Besides Hopkins and Mirren giving great performances it was very uneven tonally and wasn't clear on what it wanted to do and what it wanted to say about Hitchcock and his psychological profile. Great review.
