@Lady Stark, I'm not going to argue, I think you misunderstood the subtext of my comment. I do understand the spirit of your initial post. We should live in a society where that stuff doesn't matter. Unfortunately we don't live in the world you are describing. We live in a world where people will sue you at the drop of a hat for bumping into them. Schools at the grade level are even more vulnerable to lawsuits for stupid stuff, so you can see why I say it was in the best interest of everyone that she step away. And yes for me this is about the kids. Personally I could care less what she did prior to becoming a teacher, but what she did was very public and accessible to everyone. As I said, this woman has options outside of being in a classroom, she can give courses at a local center for adult education, and as a science teacher she has options outside of teaching as well. Educational consulting pays.

@DesertPunk Kids can be assholes, but if she thought she could handle it why not let her? Kids torment fat teachers, minority teachers, gay teacher, etc all the time. Should we fire them too? In 9th grade a group of assholes gave my English teacher shit every day, because she had a Filipino accent. Sometimes it would interrupt the class. Should she have gotten fired? How is it any different just because porn/sex is involved? Is it possible we need to calm the fuck down about sex?
knowing your teacher was a hardcore porn star would cause a lot of people to look at her in a different light and would be nothing but a distraction.
@Paradox Yeah that’s kind of my point though. We should treat kids it’s not okay to look at people in a “different light“ because of their sexual past. Are kids really that incapable of learning that? Of course they are not. Give kids some credit. In fact, kids are probably better able to learn that than adults. Unfortunately, that opportunity was lost here.
@RogueLatina You are really not giving kids enough credit and are victim blaming. Also social “facts” change all the time.
Anyway, I love how everyone is acting like this is “for the kids”, but I bet no one at that school even asked her students how they felt about it. Probably, because it had nothing to do with kids in the first place and more with shaming people for sexual behavior that society has deemed to be some “nasty shit.”

As a woman I am in no way offended that this teacher was let go. Imagine the potential for lawsuits and even sanctions against the school had they kept her on. @RA makes a valid point about teaching at the collegiate level. She could have easily started by giving courses at a local center for adult education and built a name for herself. Or she could have done radio and still can. Again to build a name and take some of the sting off. As a science teacher she has options outside of teaching as well. Educational consulting pays. @Lady Stark while I understand your frustration, reality is her choice of profession set her up for major issues. Sure boys should "learn" how to focus, but kids don't know how to act, period. All it takes is one jerk to disrupt the entire class and even if she did reprimand the jerks the potential outcomes are murky because if the kid is a jerk what are the parents like. Bottom line is it could have gotten real nasty for her. It's a sad social fact.

They're middle school children. As soon as one of the students found out about her past it would have been over for her anyway. It would have been brought up in every single class especially if one of the students got mad at her. Not to forget what would have happen if one of the parents thought she was getting to close her son. I think she still would have been fired if she tried to teach high school seniors or even college. I'm not saying she should be fired in these alternate scenarios, but knowing your teacher was a hardcore porn star would cause a lot of people to look at her in a different light and would be nothing but a distraction.

This teacher argument is insane lol
As someone who went to middle school once & was hated by my teachers:)
if I had found out one of my middle school teachers(man, woman, hot, ugly, old, etc) did porn, I would have NEVER let that go. Even if I couldn't find the video or pictures, I would have brought that up to them all the time. In the end, one of us would have gotten kicked out of the school. Me or the teacher lol
Kids are assholes... Including my self ...back then:)

The only way i see this working is maybe.. a college professor? human sexuality course? i mean by that age who gives a fuck she could even tell the class she did porn during orientation no one would care. But middle school? we've all done some nasty shit but when u put it on camera.. for a profit and it gets on the internet.. boy the jokes we made on our teachers in middle school, if we had that kind of ammo..

I don't have an "angle" Korey. I understand that a man would likely be fired too, especially as statistically speaking most male porn stars are gay, so there would most likely be that issue. I don't like anyone being stigmatized for their sexual life, when again, it's with consensual adults. However, it's no secret that women's sexual pasts are held against them in a way men's never are. Firing this woman for her sexual past reenforces that and teaches kids, that's it's okay, when it's not. That was my point. Your argument on the podcast was "boys will be boys." You kept talking about how the male classmates wouldn't be able to handle it and she have waited until she was old and ugly so they could. How is that not boys will be boys? Asking students to be respectful and nonjudgmental of a former porn star is not asking too much and is not placing the "burden of blame" on them. It's teaching them to not to shame people and to respect people regardless of their sexual past.

Aaah, I see now, Lady Stark. I didn't want to say it before, but I figured you had an angle where you felt the only reason she is being fired is because she is a woman. While I can see your concern, and I don't blame you for having your guard up, I doubt it's because she's a female. I think the same would've happened to a man. I wouldn't even be surprised if a man would've been treated worse. Parents and teachers seeing him as creepy and perhaps a danger, especially being around young girls.
And no, it's not about 'boys being boys'. It's about kids being kids, no matter their gender. And it's really not fair to place the burden of blame on them based on the actions and decisions of an adult. Especially an adult who was fully aware of the consequences their actions may have.
