Props to this Spill Call In episode. Funny as hell.

And since no one else has covered it, I'm so happy you talked about Kitchen Nightmares, and how it's so different from the original Ramsay version in the UK. The UK version is just so entralling and interesting, while the US version, even if it's somewhat enjoyably-trashy, is all about drama. And of course, bashing on Jersey Shore is always welcome. Reality TV is mixed on what it's trying to really portray, but we've been really skewing into the insane over the past few years. (With Teen Mom, Hoarders, Toddlers & Tiaras)

Yeah.. Alice... be really careful and fair when picking the worst for your list. Its not just about proof-watching the films, but really critically analyzing each film if it warrants that title of being the worst.

Like we heard you want Helen Mirren to win a Razzie. For what reason and evidence? For what we heard she was probably the best thing out of Arthur. Plus don't really count the Razzies as your go-to-source for the worst films, just as don't count the Oscars for the best. Its all politics, not art.

Hence my contention. Razzies can be fairly on point, but when they pull in bias and nitpickyness, they start to come off like dicks.

Also, there's an alternate ending for I Am Legend that makes it a much more faithful adaption. It tested badly, so they took it out. Which was stupid, but.

I remember popping in the chat for the last few minutes and hearing the pitch... I'm sorry, that was just fucking terrible. It sounded like a really shitty CW show... :/

But wait... some people put Hunchback on a worst of? I'm sorry, but that's really pretentious. You can criticize it for adapting a novel not appropriate for Disney in the first place, but as a film itself aside it's beautiful and still pretty mature. At LEAST praise the music if nothing else! I mean I don't like "I Am Legend" for being inaccurate to the book, but it doesn't belong on a worst of... the hell?

  • October 18, 2011 at 11:47 PM, said ...

I agree with you. A lot of their calls are totally fine, but some are just so bias. Plus nominating the Hunchback of Notre Dame for Worst anything is just daft. It's a great film, and Disney are fairly well known for using only bits of pieces of the source material they're adapting. Rarely is it ever a negative.

Having George Bush win a nom for Fahrenheit 9/11 was just stupid.

OK, there are nominations that have me straching my head too, I'll admit. For example, they had Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Disney version, as a nomination for "Worst Screenplay that Grossed Over 100 Million." The guy who created the Rzzies said that his reasoning for this was that it changed too much of the original book. True, there are people who despise a movie 'cause it does not follow the book, but when doing what most people should consider "the worst", those bias opinions should just be locked away for the time being.

  • October 18, 2011 at 11:34 PM, said ...

That's sort of cherry picking. I never said they were totally off point, but there are a lot of nominations that just come across as trying to be "highbrow" or nitpicky.

Gigli, Freddy Got Fingered, I Know Who Killed Me, Inchon (Which, by the way, has not been released on DVD OR VHS.), Basic Instic 2, Catwoman, Leonard Part 6, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Under the Cherry Moon, The Last Airbender, Bolero, The Lonely Lady, Ghosts Can't Do It, Showgirls, Striptease, An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, Swept Away, Dirty Love, and The Love Guru. Seems like they got more right than wrong to me.
